Wayzata's Meridian Manor was the place to party Friday, Feb. 24. After all, it isn't every day that one of your own turns 102.
Meridian Manor resident Dorothy Schleuder was born on Feb. 20, 1915. Her daughter, Kay Johnson, shared that she grew up in Hastings, Minn., where she went to business school and went on to become a secretary. Schleuder also lived in Minneapolis and Austin and eventually moved to Meridian Manor in her 90s. She met her husband, Merlin Schleuder, at the beach near Prescott, Wis., and Johnson said the two were avid motorcyclists. Schleuder also has a son, Jim.
Afternoon festivities at Meridian Manor in honor of Schleuder included cake and music in Meridian Manor's main gathering area, and Schleuder was given an engraved vase. Her love of butterflies, sweets and the color purple were all visible throughout the event.
